COMMENT: It is interesting to note that automakers and the government believe female crash dummies are important in determining crash-worthiness in light of studies showing women are at greater risk than men of suffering injury or death in crashes while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) really does not see it as necessary. While the IIHS is a non-profit and has issued some important opinions and reports, the Member Groups are all insurance companies and the funding sources are insurance associations.

Is the difference of opinion on the crash dummy issue a subtle way to try and discredit the studies about women suffering more serious injuries or death and therefore a way to lower the value of women's injury claims?
