Pedestrian Safety: How Innovative Tech Could Save Your Life

When it comes to pedestrian traffic, safety should be the number one concern, but transportation infrastructure in the United States is built to accommodate cars, not people. This focus is putting lives at risks and the data shows it — in 2010, pedestrian fatalities rose 4.2%, and pedestrian injuries due to motor vehicle crashes increased by 19% from the previous year, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. With 4,280 pedestrians killed and 70,000 injured in 2010 in the U.S. alone, cities are installing technologies that will improve pedestrian safety on busy streets.

iKeyboardRemote Controls Music on an iOS Device from Your Keyboard

Mac: If you use your iOS device to play music on your stereo, you usually have to stand up and walk over to it in order to skip a song. iKeyboardRemote is a desktop app that keeps you from having to walk over to your stereo by controlling the basic music playing functions from your keyboard.
iKeyboardRemote uses a Bluetooth connection between your computer and your iOS device. With Bluetooth enabled on both devices, iKeyboardRemote will walk you through the process of pairing the two together. After the two are communicating with each other, you control your iOS device's music playback using the media keys on your keyboard. Since it's Bluetooth, the range isn't phenomenal, but if you often have your device connected to a stereo that's a bit out of reach from you computer, this is a great way to stay in control. iKeyboardRemote is a free download in the Mac App Store.
